Zindagi Ka “Safar” OR Zindagi ka “Suffer”
My Guru Shri Haribhai Kothari often spoke about two kinds of people – one who is only wanting to enjoy this life. Their only mantra “Eat, drink, be merry.” They seek no higher purpose nor are they inclined to know if there is any goal of human birth, except to acquire and to enjoy sense pleasures. Most of their time and energy is spent in earning and then deciding where to holiday. A majority of this group do not believe much in afterlife or rebirth nor are they aware of any aspect of this life which will accompany them and carry forward to future lives. I have heard so many well-meaning people say that what you sow, you will reap here only. Such people (with very few exceptions) are allergic to any form of Satsangh or Guru since they are convinced that they know what life is all about. Since they would not be inclined to believe what our scriptures have been saying since time immemorial about reincarnation and rebirth. I would strongly recommend them to read “Many Lives, Many Masters” by Dr. Brian Weiss (American Psychiatrist). We tend to believe easily what western psychiatrist/Doctors say even when they are only saving what our Rishis knew eternally. So read at least this Book, if not the Geeta. And then, there is the second type of people who also believe in enjoying their life and yet they know that it is not the only purpose of human birth. They enquire into the basic question “Who am I,” and at some point realize that we are not this body or mind we are so identified with. We are eternal and we cannot die when the body perishes. (For this refer to Youtube - Dr. Raymond Moody’s - Life after Life and Anita Moorjani’s Book – Dying to be Me and Anita Moorjani’s Ted Talk on Youtube). For this, we need Satsangh, Guru, relatively receptive mind/intellect, faith, time for all this inquiry. But we keep thinking that all this is to be done later in retirement when we have nothing better to do. But how many people do this even then is the question? How many retire mentally? Haribhai said it all in 1 line – We don’t live for 100 years – we live 1 year a 100 times. Only the 2nd type of people really “enjoy” life fully. Only for them, it is Zindagi ka ‘Safar’. For the rest, it is Zindagi ka ‘Suffer’.
