Seeing you through my heart

Somebody asked Majnu once, “What is so special about Laila, she is quite ordinary to look at.” Majnu replied, “If you wish to see her beauty, see her through my eyes.” Whenever we see the world, it is perceived through the lens of our mind/heart/samskars (innermost tendencies and past impressions). We all see the same object or person and yet perceive them differently as we want to see them. If we understand this deeply, we will never ask our beloved ones questions like – what do you see in him or her (when your teenage daughter/son introduce their boy/girlfriend to you) or what do you see in this movie or serial, what do you see in this dress, what do you see in this hair-style, what do you see in this, that or whatever? These questions only indicate that our shallow understanding and love for others. We want everyone to see everything through our own perception.
I don’t see serials much, but over last 3 months I have been watching this Sony serial – ‘Ek Dujhe Ke Vaaste’ and am completely in awe of its lead heroine – ‘Suman’ (name in the serial), the way she looks (unbelievably pretty), the way she acts, the way she dresses, the way she raises, lowers, moves her eyes to express her varied emotions, the way she smiles/cries, and ofcourse the way she expresses love. She can be every directors’ delight due to her immense talent and subtlety. When I shared this with my close friend Dhwani (who sends you these articles every month – God bless her sweet soul), she exclaimed, “OK, she is good, but why are you going so overboard?” I told her, “See her through my eyes and you will see a different Suman.” If Suman sees herself through my eyes, I am sure she will fall in love with herself.  May I request you all too to see her someday for 2 minutes atleast even if you hate watching serials. Maybe, you will understand this law – ‘You see the world you perceive’ and thereby give others the freedom of their own perception. Actually we all live in the world of our own perception and therefore when two people come together in any relationship their worlds clash. To minimise this friction we must learn to see the other through their heart.
